Is it cheaper to go to Folktandvården than to a private dentist?
No, not necessarily. Prices are regulated by the Dental and Pharmaceutical Benefits Agency's (TLV) reference prices and apply to both public dental care (Folktandvården) and private clinics affiliated with the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan). At Luxadent in Helsingborg, Malmö, and Ystad, we are affiliated with the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, and you always receive a cost estimate before treatment begins. The dental care subsidy and high-cost protection work the same way with us as they do with public dental care.
How much does a visit to the dentist cost?
A standard examination costs between SEK 800 and 1,200 depending on whether X-rays and dental hygienist treatment are included. At Luxadent, you always receive a cost estimate before the treatment starts. The general dental care subsidy (SEK 300–600 per year depending on age) is automatically deducted from the invoice. For larger treatments, the high-cost protection kicks in: a 50% subsidy after SEK 3,000 and 85% after SEK 15,000.
What do I do if I cannot afford to go to the dentist?
You have several options. The general dental care allowance from Försäkringskassan (the Swedish Social Insurance Agency) provides 300–600 SEK per year, which is deducted directly from the bill. The high-cost protection significantly lowers the price for larger treatments; you only pay 50% of the cost over 3,000 SEK and 15% of the cost over 15,000 SEK. How do I know which dentist I should go to?

How do I change dentists to Luxadent?
Switching dentists is simple and free of charge. Book a first appointment with us, and we will retrieve your records and X-rays from your previous dentist, with your consent. You do not need to resign from your old clinic because neither public dental care (Folktandvården) nor private dentists have binding contract periods. The entire switch can often be made in a single visit, and you continue directly with the same dental care allowance and high-cost protection.
Does Luxadent offer emergency dental care?
Yes, we offer emergency dental care in Helsingborg daily. The clinic is open 07–20 on weekdays and 09–16 on Saturdays, and we accept emergency cases on the same day. In case of sudden toothache, a broken tooth, a lost crown, or an infection, call 042-802 95 or book an emergency appointment online. We do not charge any extra fees for emergency visits in the evenings or on weekends, unlike many other clinics.
Do you offer treatment under general anesthesia or nitrous oxide?
At our clinic in Helsingborg, we offer treatment under nitrous oxide (sedation), which is a very effective option for those with dental anxiety or before longer procedures. Treatment under general anesthesia is offered at our sister clinic Luxadent Malmö, where a specialist-trained anesthesiologist is always present during the entire treatment.
