Fear of the dentist

Why does dental anxiety occur?

The fear can be due to many different things, for example:

  • Previous negative experiences at the dentist

  • Fear of pain or discomfort

  • Feeling of losing control

  • Shame over the condition of the teeth

  • Inherited or transferred fear (from parents or others)

  • The memory of an unpleasant treatment in childhood

For some, the fear manifests as trembling, cold sweats, or palpitations - for others, it shows as anxiety or panic feelings before or during the visit.

How we help you if you're afraid of dental care

Our goal at Luxadent is to make your visit as calm and comfortable as possible.
We work with empathy, clear communication, and a safe environment where you feel you have control.

We can help you manage your fear by:

  • Taking extra time to go through the treatment in advance

  • Explaining each step during the treatment

  • Making regular breaks if you need to rest

  • Allowing you to listen to music during the treatment

  • Letting you have a friend or relative with you

  • Offering sedatives, nitrous oxide, or anesthesia if needed

All our staff are trained to meet patients with anxiety or panic feelings, and we always adjust the pace according to your needs.

Why you should continue going to the dentist

Avoiding dental care due to fear can unfortunately lead to problems worsening, making the treatment more extensive later. By attending regular check-ups, we can detect problems in time and avoid major interventions – which in turn reduces both anxiety and costs in the long run.

Treatment of dental anxiety with anesthesia

For patients with severe dental anxiety, we also offer treatment under anesthesia.
Under anesthesia, you sleep deeply and notice nothing of the treatment. Our anesthesiologist is always present and responsible for the entire procedure. This is a safe option for you if you can't undergo treatment while awake.
